Ubuntu Live CD
Update (Aug 10 2005):
The Ubuntu Live CD still lacks the tools, connectivity(no dsl connectivity) and applications(no out of the box mp3 support) compared to Knoppix. I guess it’s best purpose is to test drive Ubuntu before going for a full install.
If some of your hardware doesn’t work and you still want to use Ubuntu, try going to the Ubuntu Forums and find a remedy.
But if you want to:
- Showcase linux without installing it.
- Use linux to recover data or fix you pc.
- Connect to the internet without installing an OS.
Knoppix is your best bet for those. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t say that Ubuntu is an inferior Linux distro. It’s just that it’s Live CD version is still immature. The full distro is another story though.
IMHO Ubuntu is the best desktop variant of Linux. The perfect, if not, alternative to Windows. If you’re sick of using Windows and want to try something new, I wholeheartedly suggest Ubuntu.
– End of update–
Whoa it’s raining again. I like the weather and all but I don’t like getting my pants wet(uhh..) when going out(ahh). Thank God I still don’t have a cold after getting rained on two days in a row.
Anyway I’ve downloaded the Ubuntu Linux Live CD. I’m going to test drive it on my computer and see if I can migrate entirely from Windows. I don’t play much games anyway aside from emulators.
I’m just worried if Ubuntu could recognize my other hard disk. Knoppix doesn’t seem to mount it properly.
